30.01 - safe havens and USD especially are in the spotlight today

15.02.2019

Yesterday was a very important day for the American economy and for USD as well. Yesterday we got to see more of the information on the state of the economy of the USA as well as heard Fed statement of the future of interest rates in the country. And it seems that even despite so many shakes caused by impeachment process of Donald Trump, American economy is still going strong. In fact, it has even grown in the last quarter of 2019, although the goal set by Trump – 3 percent annual growth - wasn’t reached.

Asian stocks in their turn are failing lower and lower. Today they are reaching 7-week-low point, all because of the virus fears spreading across Asia. The problem here is that according to the scientists, we haven’t even reached peak of the virus spreading. It is going to come in about a week and only after that we can hope that the situation will start stabilizing, but whether it is going to be the case is up for debate.

Today we have to be careful around pound. Today, just a day before Brexit, we are going to get more information on interest rates, which is always a reason for shakes and changes. And surely, we are going to follow every tick of GBP/USD chart – not every day we get to see the influence of the decision as big as Brexit on the economy of the country.

Precious metals are mixed, even though gold is trying to break out right now. As safe haven it has all the possibilities to do that. Yen is already growing, so what is to stop gold as well?
